Meet Our Young Volunteer Team

The Pantri is a project brought to you by Community Volunteer Wales. We are an eco-shopping solution in the middle of Risca, working to lower our community’s carbon footprint and offer affordable solutions. We are proudly volunteer run, and our volunteers work hard to ensure our shop is stocked with a variety of products for our customers. They’re always on hand to help our customers make the best choices and to guide them to get the most from their £4 basket. To read more about how the Pantri operates read our blog here.

At Pantri we have three young volunteers all under 20 years old who give up their time to help in the community. We thought we would write a little blog to showcase them and so you could meet our young volunteer team.

Meet the Team

Meet our Pantri Young Volunteer team:

Jack

Jack is nineteen and regularly volunteers with us. He is a big music fan and likes helping people. He enjoys working at The Pantri and working with people.

Ieuan

Ieuan is seventeen and loves watching football. He likes volunteering with us at The Pantri because he likes helping his community. Ieuan volunteers with us to get some work experience and pad out his CV ready for employment.

Veronica

Veronica is seventeen and is one of our more creative volunteers. She likes drawing, creating new things and video games. She decided to volunteer to meet other people and she hopes to get some work experience as well as helping those in her community.

One thing is for sure – they’ll all be getting glowing references from us!

Reasons to Become a Young Volunteer with Us

There are many reasons why people should consider volunteering in their community. Volunteering offers a range of benefits not only to the community but also to the volunteers themselves. Volunteering holds immense value for young people, providing them with a unique array of benefits that can significantly shape their personal, educational, and professional development. Here are five reasons why volunteering is especially good for young individuals:

1. Skill Development and Enhancement

Volunteering at the Pantri offers an invaluable opportunity for our young volunteers to acquire and refine a diverse set of skills. From communication and teamwork to problem-solving and leadership, these skills are not only applicable to volunteering but also help with education and studying and future careers.

2. Hands-On Learning

Volunteering enables experiential learning, allowing young individuals to grasp real-world concepts and situations beyond the classroom. Working in practical scenarios helps consolidate what they have learnt and encourages critical thinking.

3. Boosting Confidence and Self-Esteem

Contributing positively to the community and seeing the impact of one’s efforts can lead to a sense of accomplishment and heightened self-confidence. This can expand into other areas of their lives and result in stronger relationships and better results at school.

4. Time Management and Prioritization

Balancing volunteering commitments with academic studies, extracurricular activities, and personal life requires effective time management and organisational skills. Young volunteers learn how to prioritise tasks and manage their schedules efficiently.

5. Building a Well-Rounded CV

Starting early with volunteering can enhance a young person’s CV by showcasing their proactive involvement in activities outside of school and in support of their community. This can be particularly beneficial when applying for further education, internships or apprenticeships, or future job opportunities.
