Our recipes so far could be described as more on the serious side. We’re here to say that this Community Cookbook is also here for fun! This recipe is 100% for your inner child – we’re not here to judge. This hotdog spaghetti recipe is a quick, fun and child friendly meal that can be made from items regularly stocked at The Pantri. At The Pantri you can get a basket of food, with a variety of cupboard staples, bakery items, fresh and frozen goods as well as fresh fruit and vegetables for just £4.
We promise this meal will please even the fussiest of eaters. We first came across it on Pinterest when looking for “meals for fussy toddlers.” During lockdown, this admin’s toddlers become really picky eaters. So research on easy recipes that they would gobble up without a fight became a necessity. Hotdog spaghetti, or rather “hotdawg pahgetti” became a firm lockdown favourite.
Is this a seasonal recipe?
Technically, you see this recipe raise in popularity around Halloween. This recipe is usually used as spooky pasta or spider spaghetti. However, it can be enjoyed any time of year. If you are making spider spaghetti you need to cut your hotdogs larger and thread the pasta through so it looks like spider legs.
Tips for Making Hotdog Spaghetti
This is an incredibly simple recipe, however there is still some room for this recipe to go horribly wrong. Here we’ve got some tips to avoid a car crash with this recipe:
- 1. Only thread 3 – 4 pieces of spaghetti through the hotdog pieces, anymore and the spaghetti will damage the hot dogs too much and they will fall off in the pan
- 2. Only thread 2 – 3 hot dog pieces on the same group of pasta, this will stop the spaghetti from snapping
- 3. Cook your pasta gently – cooking it at too high a heat will make the hotdogs pop and fall off the spaghetti
- 4. Before adding the sauce – check if the children want the sauce otherwise this will get rejected

Hotdog Spaghetti
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prep the hotdogs
Open your hotdogs and drain. Slice the hotdogs into even sections
-
Add the pasta
Thread the pasta through the hotdogs. Use no more than 3-4 pieces of spaghetti through the hotdogs or it will break the hotdog. Thread the pasta and set to the side.
-
Cook the pasta
Add the spaghetti and hotdogs to boiling water and gently simmer as per the packet instructions of the spaghetti. If you cook the pasta on too high a temperature it could cause the hotdogs to break.
-
Prepare the sauce
Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Open the Passata and pour into a saucepan. Add in the garlic, herbs and seasoning.
-
Heat the sauce
Gently heat the sauce while the pasta cooks.
-
Drain and combine
Drain the pasta and combine with the sauce. Mix until covered and adjust the seasoning if required. Serve the pasta with cheese and garlic bread for a crowd pleasing fun meal.
